The Nigerian Army on Friday, September 15, 2017, declared the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) a terrorist group.
Led by Nnamdi Kanu, the IPOB have been seeking secessions from Nigeria.
Kanu who was released on strict bail conditions have since flouted the terms for his release.
Inciting comments against President Muhammadu Buhari and its security apparatus are high points of Kanu’s recent activities.
According to the Nigerian Army, military deployment to the South East - tagged Operation Python Dance II -- was to prevent security breach in the region.
Amidst criticisms of the activities of the Army in the area, the Nigerian military has branded IPOB a terrorist organization.

According to a statement by the Director for Defence Information, Maj.-Gen John Enenche, here are seven reasons why the Nigerian Army has placed the terrorist tag on IPOB.
I. The formation of a Biafra Secret Service.
2. Claimed formation of Biafra National Guard.
3. Unauthorised blocking of public access roads.
4. Extortion of money from innocent civilians at illegal road blocks.
5.
Militant possession and use of weapons (stones, molotov cocktails,
machetes and broken bottles among others) on a military patrol on 10
September 2017.
6. Physical confrontation
of troops by Nnamdi Kanu and other IPOB actors at a check point on 11
September 2017 and also attempts to snatch their rifles.
7.
Attack by IPOB members, on a military check point on 12 September 2017,
at Isialangwa, where one IPOB actor attempted to snatch a female
soldier’s rifle.
