The Lagos State National Assembly
Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Ikeja, has slated July 27, 2015
to hear the petition seeking the disqualification of Dr. Femi
Gbajabiamila as the elected lawmaker representing Surulere Federal
Constituency 1 of the state in the House of Representatives.
The petitioner, Mr. Tony Ashikodi, and
his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, are challenging the declaration
by the Independent National Electoral Commission that Gbajabiamila won
the the March 28, 2015 election.
INEC had declared Gbajabiamila of the
All Progressives Congress, who polled 21, 715 votes, winner ahead of
Ashikodi who garnered 14, 550 votes.
But Ashikodi and the PDP had approached
the tribunal, led by Justice C.U Anwuka, with claims that the election
was characterised with irregularities and conducted in breach of INEC’s
guidelines.
At the Monday’s proceedings, lawyers for
Gbajabiamila and INEC, Dele Adeoti and C.N. Olaitan respectively,
applied for the withdrawal of certain applications that they had filed
before the court.
Justice Anwuka consequently struck out the applications.
The tribunal thereafter adjourned till July 27 to hear the substantive case.
