President Muhammad Buhari has been advised not to allowed the so-called captains of the industry, G7, World Bank, IMF, and the likes, who are only interested in what they stand to gain, but to focus on Nigerian masses by recovering all looted funds and not borrow to tackle the many challenges facing the nation. Giving the advice in Lagos on Sunday at a national discourse organised by The Companion, a legal practitioner and human rights activist, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), called on the president to ensure that all looted funds were recovered and block all leakages in order to have enough fund to run his government without necessarily borrowing.
“Government should construct modular green refineries to serve as short term measure to solve fuel crisis.
Also speaking, another guest lecturer, Professor Abubakar Momoh, urged the new administration to focus on mechanised farming, agro-processing, make farms and rural areas very attractive to live in. “Why must we be subsidising aviation industry and not agriculture? We need to take advantage of our huge population by focusing on industrialisation as well as reviewing our educational system.”
According to him, Nigerians’ high expectations of the Buhari administration may be dashed if efforts are not put in place to ensure accountability through transparency in all arms of government.
In his welcome address, National President of The Companion, Mr Musbau Oyefeso, called for adequate measure to be put in place to reduce the cost of electioneering in Nigeria.
