A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic
Party in Lagos State, Gloria Adebajo-Fraser, has called on the All
Progressives Congress senators to shun bitterness and support the Senate
President, Bukola Saraki.
The APC lawmakers had on Tuesday morning
converged on the International Conference Centre in Abuja for a meeting
in which they were to be addressed by President Muhammadu Buhari. The
APC senators missed the election which saw the emergence of Saraki as
the Senate President.
While congratulating the newly
inaugurated senators in a statement, on Wednesday, Adebajo-Fraser said
the 8th National Assembly has demonstrated commendable political
maturity in the election of its leaders.
The
statement read, “I believe the APC has shot itself in the foot as the
new leadership that has emerged in the 8th Assembly is a result of an
alliance between the new PDP and the old PDP. The PDP has produced some
of the best and astute politicians in Nigeria today and will always
demonstrate impressive political skills and sagacity when they want to.”
“Some APC senators failed to show up for
the election which was to hold at 10am in accordance with the
tradition. As of the time the election was conducted, the PDP had the
majority in the house and there was a quorum before the election was
held in accordance with the house rules.”
The PDP chieftain berated the APC
senators for their absence during the election, noting that their
attitude “portrays a lack of discipline, and lack of consideration for
the other senators who were punctual.”
